House in Cercado del Marqués

La Laguna

Project Description
Close (x)

01

This new construction is situated at the end of a large orchard. The terrain lies above the level of the street that defines the lower edge of the plot, and takes the form of a horizontal platform which was taken as the base for the development of the proposal. The existing perimeter wall opens up, folding inwards, to define the inhabitable space through successive folds in its surface.

The house tells the story of the opening of an enclosure, and how the nature of this enclosure was modified to accommodate a living space.

The shutters, consisting of phenol panels, are situated on the same plane as the house’s skin and introduce colour as a building material, a superficially applied fragment. The small, shutterless openings fix the context of the surrounding tree groves as fragments on their mirrored surface. That which wishes to manifest itself actually wishes to be concealed, and vice versa.

The diverging walls of the corridor visually approximate the green from the outside, so that the widened space of the entrance and the trapezoid-shaped window become traps for the light and the landscape.
